International Schools magazine
-Serif font is used in the title yet a sans serif font is used in the rest of the page so it is traditional with a modern twist to keep the magazine interesting and current which in turn will appeal to a wider audience e.g. the parents and the pupils at the school.
-The main image is placed very large in the centre to draw attention to it and show that the children are portrayed as the centre of attention and are the main focus of the school.
-The school logo is in the top left hand corner where the reader will naturally look first when reading information that is presented on a page which would suggest that the international school magazine want their readers to know that first and foremost that it is their magazine and is about their school.
-The language used is quite simply worded so that children who may want to read the magazine are able to easily read it.
-There is not a lot of text on the front of the page maybe because the magazine is aimed at children and they know that the children who view the magazine will not want to read a lot of text on the initial cover.
-The dominant colour is blue. And from the cover we can see that this seems to be the colour scheme of the school as the children in the image are wearing a blue uniform and the logo is also the same navy blue colour. A second dominant colour is also white as it stands against the darkness of the blue. The symbolism is that it relates to the school as it is their school colour scheme.
-This is a medium close-up action shot. The medium close up shot removes more of the background and shows that the focus is on the children. Also with a medium shot showing less background it cant give anything away as to what the magazine may entail so encourages people to read on.
-The children in the main image are wearing a school uniform the demonstrate to the readers that these are the children that currently attend the school, and it also shows that the children are all equals at that school. The setting seems to be of children enjoying themselves in a comfortable environment and this could show to the reader that the children are happy in that environment and are having fun.
FFH School magazine
-The title is made of a serif font which makes the magazine seem more current and modern so it will attract sort of the younger generation or teenagers. The rest of the magazine is a sans serif font which is more sophisticated and professional looking to show that the magazine is not just aimed at younger audiences. Also the size of the font varies which puts emphasis on the fonts that are larger as they are more eye-catching.
-The title of the magazine is at the top of the page emphasised by the dark red colouring and a white background. This makes it extremely visible drawing attention to it.
-The main image in the centre of the page is of a group of girls playing netball. They are also all smiling happily and not paying a lot of attention to the camera showing that they are having a lot of fun. Also it is not a posed photo as it is an action shot so the school may be trying to portray that they don’t have to force their students into doing things and they are willing to do them on their own terms.
-The language used is quite simply written and not at all difficult to interpret so this might be that the magazine is steered towards the younger people.
-There is repletion of the word success on the front cover of the magazine which could suggest that the school want to portray their success. This could indicate that the school magazine is read by parents as the pupils who attend the school are already aware of what success the school has had as by the main image on the page they seem to be involved with it.
-Towards the bottom of the magazine there is almost like a directory for specific pages and this is written in very simple English and is very concise this could suggest that teenagers or younger children will read it and will want to go to the specific page that they want.
-The main colour on the page is a dark red, plum colour. This is the same colour as the uniform which allows the school to be well presented and put together portraying almost a sophisticated and organised vibe. Also it creates a visual link between the audience of the magazine and the school.
-The camera shot used in the image is a low-angle shot which makes the students in the image appear larger. This makes it seems like the students are confident and are rising pupils.
-The camera shot shows the pupils partaking in extra-curricular activities; this could be to show what the school has to offer and the opportunities that their students can do whilst they are there.
-The costumes that the girls are wearing ties specifically in with the sport that they are playing. This may show what the school is able to provide for their school.
-The setting is a natural scene rather than a staged one.
Greenfields Schools
-The typography used for the heading is a serif font. This is quite a traditional font to use so makes the magazine more business-like and professional.
-The rest of the wording on the page is also a serif font which would make it appeal like it would be for the parents or older people who want to read it as it is a very dated font and not modern.
-The font is easy and clear to read so in retrospect anybody could have the potential to read the text and read the magazine should they so desire.
-I feel that the intended effect by using such a business-like and professional font is to portray that that’s what the school see themselves as being and what to above all to try and portray themselves as business like and professional to encourage the parents etc. to feel that they are a worthy school.
-The title of the magazine has been places in the top right hand corner; this gives it a modern edge which contrasts with the writing. Typically we would expect the title to be placed dead centre or in the top left hand corner, but because this is the right hand corner is makes it unique with a modern twist which could attract a younger audience.
-However the school logo is placed in the top left hand corner and this is where the eye would naturally go to when trying to read something which could suggest that the school feel like they can be recognised purely from their logo. Or perhaps they want people to be aware of the school logo first and foremost.

-The language used is not complex; there are no particularly difficult words which would indicate that they are trying to cater for younger people to enable them to read.
-The audience are not directly addressed in the magazine they are just enticed to read on further by the small subheadings that don’t give a lot away so they may want to see what the story entails.
-By not directly addressing a particular reader it makes the magazine very non-specific and isn’t really directed at anybody allowing all people to read it.
-There are a multitude of colours on the front page making it bright and inviting and interesting because of the wide variety rather than picking perhaps a two/three colour colour-scheme and sticking religiously to it.
-Despite this from the logo and comparing it to the bottom of the page I would say that a repeatedly used colour would be green. The green colour ties in with the school logo even if it is not so obvious. The subtleness makes it appear like they don’t need to constantly remind people reading their magazine who have published it.
-The camera angle used is a medium-shot.
-A medium shot helps to eliminate most of the background so the focus is solely on the children. This could be to show to the people reading the magazine that the schools focus is on the children.
-However you can still see the background slightly but not so much that it takes the main focus away from the children. In the background you can see that it’s a classroom environment and the children are clearly happy in the picture showing that the children have a happy classroom environment./
-The children in the shot are wearing dress-up costumes which could relate to the fact that the magazine says at the bottom of the page that a play has recently been put on so could show that the children all get involved with these types of events at the school.
-The intended effect on the audience it to perhaps make the children look happy and comfortable at the school so people reading will be able to pick up on this.
